  • SAY WITH SARAH

I’m happy you’ve made it here.
Your mental health and inner workings are important!

Starting therapy for the first time, or with someone new, can bring feelings of vulnerability. There’s no right or wrong way to start, or reasons needed to begin. I believe all people can benefit from therapy. After all, being a human is hard enough. I will do my best to welcome you and make the process easy.

Schedule a meet-and-greet with me to see if working together feels like a good match. During a 15-20 minute complimentary consultation, we’ll talk about what therapy might be able to do for you, the types of therapy offerings, and answer
any questions you might have about the process.

  • About my practice

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington state, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon state, and a Registered Art Therapist, Provisional (AT-P).

As a therapist and citizen, I am committed to lifelong learning about identity and practicing cultural humility. My practice is affirming of all bodies, identities, genders, relationships dynamics and sexualities. Above any therapy tool or approach, I care about making genuine connection with you, so you feel safe being your authentic and vulnerable self in therapy.

I offer a unique and integrated approach of both evidence-based practices and expressive therapies to support adolescents and adults living with Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Parenting Concerns, and Trauma.

I offer both in-person (Bellingham, WA)
and telehealth (OR + WA states).
    In-person ages 5+. Telehealth with ages 13+.

  • Anxiety & OCD

Living with persistent doubts and fears can make life feel exhausting and hopeless. Coming to therapy to work on this is an act of bravery. Learning to co-exist with anxiety doesn’t have to be scary. There is hope and recovery for you, even with the worst intrusive thoughts.

I have a collaborative and warm approach aimed to empower you to make positive changes. Working on anxiety related issues is often about restoring confidence and trust in yourself. Therapy with me will be informative, fun, and transformative.

When treating anxiety disorders & OCD, I offer clients Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based CBT
(I-CBT). The types of ERP that I am additionally trained in are specific approaches called Acceptance & Committment Therapy (ACT) - Informed ERP and Rumination-Focused ERP.
I integrate self-compassion practices in treating
all the anxiety and related disorders.
With more than one evidence-based approach for treating
    anxiety disorders and OCD,
there is more hope than ever for recovery!

  • Experience

I have a background in fine arts and passion for yoga (RYT 200).
I attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC)
    for undergraduate and graduate degrees.

I’ve been honored to learn from and support individuals in many settings: community-based counseling with youth and families in crisis, group practice, partial hospitalization program, residential & school based settings.

Beyond my formal education, I attend and host clinical consultation groups for clinicians, continue to learn through continuing education trainings, and grow my own psychotherapy library. I also consider lived experiences as influential to my approach as a therapist.

  • Family Support

A partner or family member’s mental health can be a struggle felt by the whole support system. Having your own sessions to cope, learn, manage, problem-solve and enact change is often needed. Humans do not exist in isolation—your relationships are important to well-being. There’s no shame in being burned out of caregiving. Having empathy is exhausting and you may not know exactly what to do / not to do to help your child, family member, partner or person. With me, you’ll be able to learn, vent in a judgment free zone, receive practical guidance and tools for supporting yourself and your family.

  • Trauma

I understand trauma to be on a spectrum, meaning many experiences can be traumatic and the impacts of trauma on a person’s brain and body can be diverse. I am trained in Prolonged Exposure (PE) and trauma-informed art therapy practices. I provide psychoeducation, somatic tools, compassionate exposure, and a sensitive approach to healing your narrative.

The sense of self and subsequent trauma cycle are two areas of particular focus I aim to support in order to promote re-integration and post-traumatic growth.
