Welcome!

You’ve come to right place
and I’m happy you’ve made it here.

Your inner workings
and mental health are important!

HEY, I’M SARAH!

I’m a mental health counselor passionate about creating community and social change through healing.

  • I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC #61267491) in Washington state, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC C7327) in Oregon state, and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR).

As a therapist and citizen, I am committed to lifelong learning about identity and practicing cultural humility. My practice is affirming of all bodies, identities, genders, relationships dynamics and sexualities. Above any therapy tool or approach, I care about making genuine connection with you, so you feel safe being your authentic and vulnerable self in therapy.

I offer a unique and integrated approach of both evidence-based practices and expressive therapies to support people living with Anxiety Disorders, Body Focused Repetitive Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic, Phobias
    Parenting Concerns, and Trauma.

I offer both in-person (Bellingham, WA) and telehealth (OR + WA states).

In-person for ages 5+. Telehealth or in-person with ages 13+.

  • Living with persistent doubts and fears can make life feel exhausting and hopeless. Coming to therapy to work on this is an act of bravery. Learning to co-exist with anxiety doesn’t have to be scary. There is hope and recovery for you, even with intense feelings and thoughts. With more than one evidence-based approach for treating anxiety disorders and OCD, there is more hope than ever for recovery!

I have a collaborative and warm approach aimed to empower you to make positive changes. I have found that working on anxiety related issues is often about restoring confidence and trust in yourself. Therapy with me will be engaging, fun and transformative.

When treating anxiety disorders & OCD, I offer clients Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) and Inference-Based CBT (I-CBT). The types of ERP that I am additionally trained in are specific approaches called Acceptance & Committment Therapy (ACT) - Informed ERP and Rumination-Focused ERP. I completed 12 hours of Meta-Cognitive Training which has some really promising research on treating anxiety, OCD and PTSD.

  • Body-Focused Retentive Behaviors include Trichotillomania (hair pulling), Excoriation (skin picking), Onychophagia (nail biting), Morsiacatio Buccarum/Linguarum (cheek or tongue chewing), lip biting, knuckle cracking, and others. There is so much stigma and shame associated with body focused repetitive behaviors! These behaviors often overlap with anxiety and OCD, but the treatment is very different. My approach is both behavioral and self-compassion oriented. I use an evidence-based approach with protocols of Comprehensive Behavioral Treatment (ComB) and Habit Reversal Training (HRT). I highly recommend the TLC Foundation, IOCDF, and HabitAware as resources.

  • I have a background in fine arts
and passion for yoga (RYT 200).
I attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC)
for undergraduate and graduate degrees (2013 and 2020).

I’ve been honored to learn from and support individuals in many settings: community-based counseling with youth and families in crisis, group outpatient practice, partial hospitalization program for OCD, residential program for emerging adults & school based settings supporting children on the Autism Spectrum. I have completed in pediatric OCD treatment with the International OCD Foundation’s training program called BTTI. Additionally, I have trained in the treatments of ComB and HRT for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs).

Beyond my formal education, I attend regular meetings for clinical consultation, facilitate consultations for other providers, attend continuing education trainings every year, and growing my own psycho-therapy library. My background as a licensed art therapist allows me to approach treating anxiety disorders and the OC-spectrum in a unique way. As someone dedicated to the field of mental health, I aim to stay on top of new research across the globe and emerging therapies.

  • A partner or family member’s mental health can be a struggle felt by the whole support system. Having your own sessions to cope, learn, manage, problem-solve and enact change is often needed. Humans do not exist in isolation—your relationships are important to well-being. There’s no shame in being burned out of caregiving. Having empathy is exhausting and you may not know exactly what to do / not to do to help your child, family member, partner or person. With me, you’ll be able to learn, vent in a judgment free zone, receive practical guidance and tools for supporting yourself and your family.

I’m a SPACE trained provider and use the Eli Liebowitz protocols when supporting parents of anxious children.

  • Group therapy is a special experience where people gather with something in common and with a goal of healing. Since 2016, I have run groups and found it is so profound for others to connect with each other on sharing diagnosis or life experiences. Sometimes the words of peers is even more powerful than from a therapist! Common humanity, the idea that we are not alone and others suffer just like us is a feeling that group therapy creates.

I facilitate two OCD Support Groups: “What if it all works out” and “Turns out, that was OCD”. They alternate every other Wednesday evenings from 5-6:15 pm PST.

  • I understand trauma to be on a spectrum, meaning many experiences can be traumatic and the impacts of trauma on a person’s brain and body can be diverse. I am trained in Prolonged Exposure (PE), Written Exposure Therapy (WET), and trauma-informed art therapy practices. I provide psycho-education, somatic tools, compassionate exposure, and a sensitive approach to healing your narrative.

The sense of self and subsequent trauma cycle are two areas of particular focus I aim to support in order to promote re-integration and post-traumatic growth.
